Samuel Sheeley, MS, LPC-MHSP (temp), NCC

I approach counseling as a partnership with the client. Our goal is to work together to take a look at how you, the client, experience and perceive the world around you. The way we relate and show up in our world today has been shaped by family, culture, circumstances, events, and more. We will explore how your framework was been shaped and work to address areas that it is serving you well and areas that no longer serve you. I use a variety of interventions with my clients to help them reach the goals they have for therapy. We will work together to uncover, explore, and address past words and wounds that have played a part in the client's struggles with unhealthy coping patterns, anxiety, worry, depression, self-esteem, feelings of disconnection, feelings of a lack of purpose, or feeling lost.

I completed my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lipscomb University with specializations in Play Therapy and Addictions Counseling. Over the past ten years, I have served families, adolescents, and transition-age youth in various settings.  I have spent time working with and mentoring teens at a residential counseling center in East Texas, counseled families, teens, and young adults struggling with addiction issues at a nationally renowned drug and alcohol treatment center, and have led and mentored college students at Belmont, Vanderbilt, and Lipscomb University as part of my role with Nashville Young Life.

I believe that real change happens within an arena of relationship and am passionate about helping adolescents and adults find help and hope. I enjoy using techniques from Play Therapy, CBT, DBT, and experiential therapy to help teens and young adults creatively explore their past, understand their present situation, and create a healthier future. One one of my favorite experiences is when a client’s eyes light up in a realization and I can provide encouragement to help them hope for a different tomorrow.

I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, a member of the American Counseling Association, Nashville Area Association of Christian Counselors, Chi Sigma Iota counseling honor society, Alpha Chi honor society, a member of the NAADAC -the association for addiction professionals, a recipient of the 2019-2020 National Board of Certified Counselors Minority Fellowship, and part of the Nashville Young Life community.

In my spare time I am involved in a local church, enjoy spending time outdoors, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and love building and growing community with others.
