  • After the initial consultation, the next step is to schedule a session and complete the required paperwork such as the “informed consent” prior to your first session. You will be emailed directions to park and how to get to the waiting room.

We will meet you in our waiting room when the session is scheduled to start. Our waiting room has water for clients.

The first session or “intake” session usually consists of you sharing more information about your story and why you’re seeking counseling. The clinician will have several questions throughout the session to help get a better picture of your unique story and situation. The clinician will work with you on what your goals are and what changes need to happen to best help you. Therapy may be more active incorporating homework, sand tray, or times of reflection and processing depending on the situation and your individual needs.

  • We all know that even with the best planning, life still happens. If you find that you cant make it to the schedule session you can cancel or reschedule. Sessions should be canceled at least 24 hours in advance for scheduling purposes. If you cancel within 24 hours you may be able to reschedule for another day during the week if possible but it is not guaranteed. You are responsible for the full session fee if not cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

  • The consultation call is a chance for you to learn more about what therapy looks like and what services are offered. You will have a chance to share briefly about the category of the issue and learn how to schedule an intake session. By the end of the 10-15 min call, you should have a better idea of what therapy entails, the commitment from me the therapist and the commitment from the client. If this is not quite the right fit, then the call will also help in steering you to other referrals or resources that may help.

  • Some clients come to us with no experience in a counseling setting and others come to us with various experiences related to previous counseling. One of the most important aspects of the client-therapist interaction is the relationships. Each counselor draws from their own life experience and personality to help build the counselor-therapist relationship. If we work together, I encourage you to share what has worked and what hasn’t worked in past settings. I bring my own life experience and story along with various trainings and education such as addictions work and play therapy to help partner with you in your healing and growth.

  • One thing to remember is that healing and growth is a process. The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients come for several sessions to check-in while other come in for deeper work. You and your clinician will work together to establish goals for treatment. Client’s generally find that the more they put into therapy the more they benefit.
